Red White and Who Returns

The RED WHITE AND WHO crew is BACK at CONsole Room 2018! Five of the six authors – Steven Warren Hill, Jennifer Adams Kelley, Nicholas Seidler, Robert Warnock, and John Lavalie – will be at the convention to talk about their book and will have copies on hand to purchase throughout the weekend.

Red White and Who: The Story of Doctor Who in America covers the rich history of everything DOCTOR WHO in the USA—from American TV Guide listings of Canadian broadcasts in 1965, through the Dalek movies, the early struggles of the Public Broadcasting System, the BBC sales attempts, the official debut on American television in 1972, the explosion in popularity among US viewers in 1979, the twentieth anniversary celebration in 1983, the conventions, the books, the merchandise, the fan clubs, the video releases, the games, the USA Tour, and every imaginable fan activity including cosplay, fan films and audios, PBS pledge drive volunteering, websites, podcasts, and much more, to the new heights of success, popularity, and fandom participation in the 21st century. It’s an enlightening and entertaining journey for everyone who admires DOCTOR WHO…and not just for American fans, but devotees around the globe.

We are thrilled to welcome all five back to CONsole Room this year!

Wibbly Wobbly Trivia

We are proud to announce that TC Trek Trivia will be a Featured Guest at CONsole Room 2018 and will be bringing some Wibbly Wobbly trivia with them!

The USS Fitzgerald was started in 2013, by Taylor and Kara Cisco, who returned from the Star Trek convention in Chicago, and were eager for more Trek activities here in the Twin Cities. They enlisted Lisa Rude and Sean Casey, and reached out to local bar, The Driftwood Charbar to provide the location. In 2016, Taylor (a lifelong Whovian) reached out to the Driftwood again, this time to start Wibbly Wobbly Wednesdays- a Doctor Who Trivia. Peter Gawtry is the newest member of the crew, (having started as a masteful, consistently winning, participant in the trivia games).

More than just another pub trivia, fans are encouraged to come in costume, and throughout the years, they’ve expanded to host free screening events, (most recently of Star Trek Discovery at the Parkway Theater), coordinate outings (including discounted rates to the Star Trek exhibit at MOA, Paramount promo event for Star Trek Beyond, and Creation’s 50 Year Mission convention), and are a contributing partner to the annual Star Trek Bar Crawl. ! Wibbly Wobbly Wednesday is held every 4th Wednesday (Trek Trivia takes place every second Wednesday) of every month at the Driftwood CharBar, located at 44th and Nicollet Ave in south Minneapolis. Fitness, Fun, and The Doctor

This year we are happy to announce not one but TWO fitness at this year’s convention!

We are happy to welcome the WHOVIAN RUNNING CLUB to CONsole Room for the first time as a Featured Guest! The Whovian Running Club is a charitable program administered by Random Tuesday, Inc. – a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization that harnesses the power of fandom to inspire communities of fans to be more physically active while raising funds for incredible charities making a direct impact on veterans, youth, homelessness, literacy, animals, the environment and combating diseases. WRC boasts 2,500 members from all 50 states and 21 countries around the world who’ve raised over $100,000 for charity and logged nearly 1 million miles for their own physical fitness. Inspired by the Doctor, they embody the ethos “Laugh Hard, Run Fast, Be Kind.”

Along with the Whovian Running Club we will be holding a FUN RUN on Sunday, May 13! More details are coming soon.

YOGAQUEST is also returning with more fun WHO-THEMED YOGA SESSIONS accessible to everyone regardless of yoga experience. YogaQuest is a unique and dynamic wellness business that is blazing a trail for those outside the mainstream – geeks, nerds, and anybody who has experienced gym trauma – to engage with wellness on their own terms. Both in studio and through outreach, YogaQuest challenges traditional wellness narratives to make self-care more accessible and fun for all. With narrated yoga classes that incorporate movement and fan-fiction storytelling, as well as discussion panels focused on making wellness one’s own – rather than conforming to mainstream wellness narratives – YogaQuest presents a radical alternative to mainstream wellness spaces.

YogaQuest is pleased to have a vibrant online community, online content for home practice, and the opportunity to engage with the geek community at both fan-run and larger pop culture conventions across the country. Their Narrated Yogic Adventures and discussion panels have been featured at New York Comic Con (NYCC), Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2), Emerald City Comic Con (ECCC), and at Wizard World Comic Cons in Minneapolis, Chicago and Philadelphia. YogaQuest has been featured in such publications as: The Wall Street Journal, Yoga International, Geek & Sundry, and Atlas Obscura. YogaQuest maintains a studio in Minneapolis that offers regular classes, workshops, and teacher trainings. Pose nerdy with YQ!

Yoga sessions will be announced along with the schedule as the convention draws closer.

We are so excited to bring both of these fitness/wellness activities to our convention this year! Learn more about this year’s guests at our Guests page.
